- 6 tbls softened salted butter
- 1⁄4 cup brown sugar
- 1⁄3 cup dark molasses
- 1 large egg
- 3⁄4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3⁄4 tsp ground ginger
- 1⁄2 tsp ground allspice
- 1⁄2 tsp ground cloves
- 1⁄2 tsp baking soda
- 1⁄4 tsp salt
- 13⁄4 cups all-purpose flour
To start, add softened salted butter and brown sugar to an electric whisk till it is all fluffy and smooth.
Add the egg and molasses to the mixture with ginger, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, baking soda, and salt. Blend all of it well till it is combined into a smooth dough.
Once done, toss the flour slowly into the mixture to make the gingerbread cookie batter.
Take out the thick gingerbread dough and wrap it up in plastic wrap. Let the dough cool in the fridge for some time to harden the dough.
Once the dough has firmed up, roll it out on a lightly floured surface until it's about a quarter inch thick.
Now use the cookie cutters to cut out your cookies and place them on a baking tray with parchment paper.
Bake the cookies in a 350-degree oven for 10–12 minutes.
When done, let them cool on the pan for a minute and then transfer them to the wire rack to cool completely. Decorate your cookies with royal icing if desired, or serve them plain.
