In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is combined. Let it rest for 5 minutes. Don't worry if the batter is a little lumpy.

Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly coat with cooking spray or butter.
