VIDEORECIPE Good Old-Fashioned Mustard Pickles
This recipe will show you how to make the best mustard pickles! The smell and taste will take you right back to Grandma's kitchen.
- 12 cups sliced cucumbers
- 4 cups sliced onions
- 1 chopped red pepper
- 3 tablespoon salt
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 tablespoon self-rising flour
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard
- 1 tablespoon turmeric
- 2 cups vinegar
Mix the cucumbers, onions and pepper in a cooker.
Add salt, and then fill the cooker with water to the top. Let soak overnight.
The next day, strain the vegetables and rinse very well.
To make the mixture, combine the sugar, flour, dry mustard, and turmeric in another cooker. Mix, then add the vinegar and whisk it together.
Add the vegetables, then fill with water until it's level with the vegetables.
Bring to a boil, and cook for two hours.
Sterilize some mason jars by soaking them in boiling water for 15 minutes. Then fill them with the mustard pickles mixture.
Can the jars by putting them in boiling water for 10 minutes. There should be enough water to slightly cover the jars.
After the canning, take the jars out of the water. Set them aside, and wait to hear the sound of the lids popping. Once this happens, your jar is properly sealed. Now you can enjoy your home-made mustard pickles!
