Directions

60 min.
1. Step

Start off by preparing the beef. It's important to slice the beef thinly for a tender result. Place the beef slices in a bowl.

2. Step

Prepare the marinade by combining the grated pear, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and brown sugar in a separate bowl. Based on my experience, adding pear truly enhances the flavor, making the dish deeply savory yet refreshing. Plus, the pear acts as a tenderizer that makes the beef soft and succulent.

3. Step

Pour the marinade over the beef and add the green onions to the mixture. Take your time to massage the marinade into the beef, ensuring that every slice is well coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, although if you have more time, let it sit in the fridge overnight. The longer the meat marinates, the more infused the flavors become.

4. Step

After the meat is well marinated, heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and sear until they become translucent, which usually takes about 2 minutes.

5. Step

Add the marinated beef to the skillet. Be sure not to overlap the slices and do not overcook them as they cook very quickly due to the thin slices. Cook in batches if needed. Cook each piece until it's nicely browned but still juicy, which should take about 1-2 minutes per side.

6. Step

When all the beef has been cooked, you can optionally drizzle a little extra sesame oil and sprinkle black pepper for an additional flavor boost before serving.

7. Step

Dish up the Bulgogi over hot rice, garnish with remaining green onions, and if you like, add some Kimchi on the side. There you have it, a delicious and satisfying Korean Beef Bulgogi!
