These collards are a little garlicky, a little lemony, and seriously irresistible. They’re the perfect quick and healthy side dish, and they’re exactly what I’m craving as we get a taste of spring weather.

  • 3 bunches collard greens (washed and cut) Added to
  • 1 lb smoked turkey (necksdrums or wings) Added to
  • 1 diced onion Added to
  • 2 cloves minced garlic Added to
  • 1 cups apple cider vinegar Added to
  • 2 cups onion powder Added to
  • 1 cups garlic powder Added to
  • 1 cups chicken base Added to
  • to taste Seasoned salt and pepper Added to
  • 1 cups sugar (optional) Added to


1. Step

Bring 8 cups of water to a boil in a large stock pot.Add in the smoked meat and boil for 1 hour. Remove meat from the pot and pick all of the meat off the bones. Reserve meat.

2. Step

Pack the greens into the pot of stock. Add in the onions, garlic, meat, chicken base, onion powder, and garlic powder.Lower heat, cover, and allow to simmer for 30 mins.

3. Step

Stir in the apple cider vinegar (and sugar if using)Season to taste with Cajun or seasoned salt.

4. Step

Stir well, cover, and continue simmering for 1 to 1 1/2 more hrs or until greens are as tender as desired.Enjoy!
